OK, so following on from our dive into why your Landcruiser needs an intercooler fan, it’s time to crack on with the installation. Trav takes us through a step-by-step guide on a 200 series (although this kit is compatible with the 70 series as well).
Straight up guys and girls… Although it may go against the grain for many, before you start Trav emphasises the importance of reading the instructions that are supplied. He runs through what the kit contains and then gets down to business.
In brief, the steps to a successful install follow this pathway:
- Remove the factory intercooler cover: Simple and only requires the removal of two 10mm nuts.
- Assemble the fan and mount the controller bracket: This is a bit more techy, with different mounting locations depending on whether it’s a 70 or 200 series. Trav goes into detail about the correct orientation for optimal function.
- Understanding and using shims: This is pretty crucial as shims ensure a flat, secure fit between the intercooler core and the fan plate.
- Electrical connections: Another issue that often causes undue concern, but nothing beats seeing an expert do it in real-time to understand the process. Watch as Trav connects the wires to the battery and ignition fuse box, with a host of extra handy tips to further help with installation.
- Testing the system: Checking the airflow, setting up the controller, temperature monitoring and more… Again, these crucial final steps are explained and shown in full detail.
PDP’s installation videos get so many hits – and this proves to us how much sense it makes to have a visual guide to help you work through the process. This is just one of the many, many we have in our library (and are constantly adding to). Check them out in our blog or, naturally, a member of the team is always available to chat on the phone or in-store.
