So, did Trav really destroy the iconic 200 Landcruiser? Well, maybe not completely, but he did manage to do enough damage to the bash plate and steering rack for it to require a significant rebuild. Good effort, wouldn’t you agree?
OK, so it took some time and effort to fix. But it reiterates how important regular checks and maintenance are, even on the toughest of 4x4s.
Never one to waste an opportunity to further enhance a vehicle’s performance, it should come as no surprise that Trave also carried out some other valuable upgrades while the 200 was in the workshop, including:
- The suspension: Despite pretty decent market suspension, if you plan to hit any serious tracks or terrain, then upgrading the upper control arms should be high on your list of priorities. This will help fine-tune the camber and caster angles, improve the steering response and extend tyre lifespans.
- The tyres: These also got a very decent upgrade. Trav chose to fit the Maxis Razr MT, a great mud-terrain performance and handling option that comes with the added bonus of low road noise when running on
tarmac.
- Protecting the underbody: Again, if you’re going to do anything more than a bit of light off-roading, the vehicle’s going to need some decent protection. Adding decent skid plates is always a good move (even though they add weight) and will prevent impact damage from rocks, logs and other obstacles.
It can’t be over-emphasized how important your regular checks and maintenance are – even for a 4x4 that’s as tough as the iconic 200. These should include routine oil, filter and brake checks, as well as confirming that nuts, bolts and connectors are secure and haven’t worked loose.
Careful selection of the right performance parts for your 200 series are key – and that includes the mounting brackets, as well as the sexier big-ticket items. If you need any help deciding, then check out our FAQs or get in contact. There’s nothing we like better than some down and dirty 4x4 talk…
