Step-by-Step Guide to a Dual Battery Install on a 70 Series V8 Facelift

In this video, Travis demos one of the most popular upgrades on a Landcruiser – fitting a dual battery kit. This install is on a 70 Series v8 Facelift and details the process and how to avoid any potential pitfalls.

It begins with showing what the kit contains plus the tools you’ll need. As with all PDP products, full instructions are included, and you can also use the video for reference.

The process involves:

  • Isolating the power sources (battery and any other).
  • Removing the factory accessory fuse box and installing the controller.
  • Configuring the charging profiles to match the type of battery.
  • Mounting the Anderson plug and solar bracket.
  • Rerouting the cables and securing the BDC.
  • Installing the battery tray and connecting the battery link switch.
  • Wiring the switch and connecting everything up.
  • Putting everything back together and carrying out the final checks.

It’s a pretty simple process – the kit’s been specifically designed for ease. But it also details a few common mistakes – things that are so much easier to avoid when you’ve watched an install, rather than trying to follow a bunch of written instructions.

Adding a dual battery kit to your rig is probably one of the most important things you can do. It allows you to run a fridge, power decent lights, charge devices and never have to worry about being stuck for power miles from anywhere. PDPs dual battery kits have a jump start option – simply flick a switch and, even if the main battery has died, the accessory one will be used to power it up and get the engine running.

PDP provides  these kits for all Landcruisers, including the 70 Series, 200 and 300, as well as for the Prado and Hilux.
