OK, so it’s time to get over the demise of the V8 and get to know its replacement. In this video, Trav road tests the new 2.8L 70 series and gives his honest opinion on both the good and the bad points.
Overall, the engine is pretty impressive. It’s smooth, there’s plenty of power when it counts and it’s much more fuel-efficient. But... The engine bay is busy and cramped, making it more difficult to work on. The classic V8 roar is gone and, when it comes to reliability, only time will tell as to how good this is going to be.
It comes with a stack of new features, such as:
- Digitised dash and upgraded, modern instrument cluster.
- Electric mirrors.
- LED headlights.
- A pretty awesome infotainment system.
- A decent driving position that’s deffo more comfortable than previous models.
- A larger fuel tank – great if you’re heading deep into the bush for an extended trip.
Overall, the new (well, 2023) 2.8L 70 series is well-built, rugged and well up to the demands of beach and outback off-roading. Travis explains how they’ve adapted upgrades, such as the 70 series PDP fuel filtration kit, to fit the new model.
He also addresses the million-dollar question – is he going to sell his V8 Landcruiser and get a 4-cylinder dual cab instead?
Whatever your thoughts, it’s good to know what’s out there and this video is a great way to get your head around the new 70 series.
