The Toyota Prado has had a makeover. As with all new vehicle iterations, it needs a bit of digging to discover if upgrades hit the spot, or if the bells and whistles are just, well, superficial embellishments.

· The driving experience: Does the 2.8 litre diesel engine deliver the necessary power? How about the on-road vs. off-road drive? Has Toyota messed about with the 4WD features, or do the much-loved features, like crawl control and multi-terrain select, still exist?
· The latest tech and safety features: What can you expect? Have they added the complete Safety Sense suite or is refined to better fit 4x4 use?
· And how about fuel efficiency: While an SUV with a decent sized engine is never going to compete with, say, an electric or hybrid runaround, let’s see how this diesel powerhouse performs…
