This video runs through the complete installation of an HPD Billet Catch Can onto a Hilux N80 Toyota. The reason for fitting one is to collect oil vapours from the crankcase of the engine. This can dramatically improve vehicle performance and longevity because it prevents them from entering the intake system – something that can damage the engine.
Trav runs through what you get in the kit – the catch can, brackets, hoses, clamps and fittings – and the tools needed to complete the installation. These are just basic hand tools – a socket set, wrenches, pliers and Allen keys. You might also need some Loctite.
As well as showing each step, Travis highlights how important it is to route the hose correctly and clamp it firmly. The installation is pretty straightforward and well within the capabilities of most people.
Other info that’s covered includes:
- The importance of wearing the appropriate safety gear during the install.
- To check any specific instructions and torque specifications in the vehicle manual before starting.
- The need to check the catch can regularly and empty it when needed.
This is one in a range of videos that PDP has produced to assist 4x4 owners with carrying out their own vehicle upgrades. The Toyota Hilux is an Aussie favourite off-roader – and with good reason. Performance, looks, reliability… These are just three reasons that for many, it’s the only choice when it comes to leaving the tarmac.
